I’d like to answer Yes and No to this one 🙂 There is a lot that we understand, and we understand more and more each day. Additionally as we discover more, we realise there is more and more to discover and understand. I like the idea that there are known unknowns (the things we know are out there but that we don’t fully understand yet), but I also appreciate that there are unknown unknowns (the things that are out there that we don’t even know about yet, let a lone understand …..)

The whole world and understand it fully I think will be a huge task since we are not talking about one science or just logical stuff but we also have emotions, interactions and other factors although all could be dealt as science …

We are learning everyday and that is the beauty about the world it is the most exciting learning curve and just for example I learned a lot through the questions and answers here that I never knew about or thought a bout before … So maybe we understand the world collectively but I believe still so much to learn and find out 😉

Some really good answers from Gill and Akram, so I won’t give a huge answer. I think we understand more than we did 100 years ago and in 100 years time we will understand even more … whether we’ll ever understand everything is impossible to say.. but we’ll keep trying 🙂

I think that anybody who believes they know everything is only indicating how little they know. There is always something more to learn just round the corner. Don’t worry – we won’t have discovered all there is to know before you start your career as a scientist. There will be plenty left to find out!!! 🙂
