Plato argued that time is constant – itβs life thatβs the illusion. For me it is a dimension – a second is always a second, and a minute always 60 seconds; an hour 60 minutes etc…. BUT…… time can seem like an illusion… when you are waiting for something really exciting (like Christmas morning when you are a kid) it seems to take for ever, but when its something unpleasant (like exams or the dentist) it seems to go faster than you want it to. When you are having fun on holiday the time seems to fly by beacuse you are enjoying yourself, and when you get back it seems like you were never away…. When you are in a really dull class, or waiting for your tea when you are hungry…time seems to pass so slowly. It doesn’t change, it’s just your perception…
Einstein showed that time can stretch depending on how fast you are travelling … very close to the speed of light, time goes very very slowly. We know this theory is correct because we used it to control GPS technology (things like satnavs in cars). If this theory was wrong, then those things simply wouldn’t work. It’s a bit weird though isn’t it ? π
Time for me is a dimension but it seems to speed up. I put this down to relating any set length of time to one’s own life span. So when you are a year old, 6 months is half of your life; whereas when you are 40 years old, 6 months is one eightieth of your life and doesn’t seem anywhere near as long.
For me I would say a dimension since we use it for most electronics and radio devices today and if it was an illusion I cannot see how all those devices are working now π Take for example how far a signal will reach before it disappears and also as Jack greatly mentioned localisation technology which depends heavily on speed of light and they work π
Maybe, but if time is a one-deminsional phenominon then how can it travel backwards? I can accept that there could be a 4th dimension – I just don’t think humans can access it ……

i think that we exist in a 4 demensional universe where are future is already set out.

Ooohhh!!! Does this mean that we have no influence over our future?

if that case is true, than would not we be able to create a time machine in the distant futre , that would enabe us to see past that present?
