• Question: Do you prefer researching or teaching others, and why?

      I love both because I believe if I only teach and lecture I won’t be exposed to the latest research and hence I cannot update the students or the public with what is happening and how the basics we learn can change the world 🙂

      Also if I only research, I would be the conventional scientist who sits in the lab not knowing how what he does affect the world or makes any change! I enjoy teaching because I can take the skills I get by delivering a message to the public or students and improve how I lecture students on complex issues and matters 🙂

      So for me being able to do both is the greatest thing 😀

      I prefer research …… but a close second is teaching, especially when it’s about subjects related to my research (low carbon design, climate change, sustainability, energy….)

      When I am lecturing I love teaching. When I am doing research I can think of nothing better. In that way I am a bit like a dog. Whatever is in front of me is my favourite thing at that time.

      As I’m a student myself, I’ve only done a little bit of teaching. I teach undergraduate students in small groups. I guess I’d need to do more teaching before I could say I preferred it. I do like it though!

      Research is great for keeping you thinking. It’s good if you can do both because if you keep researching you might be able to mention exciting new ideas to your students and keep them enthusiastic 🙂
