• Question: if you could invent anything, what would it be?

      I know it is outside my field of expertise but cure for cancer!!

      If talking about my work domain, then nano robots (tiny robotic machines) that go inside the body find where the problem is and treat it or also tell us more about how cells and other organs behave so we can treat them better and understand how we can make them healthier 🙂

      I guess it would have to be a working fusion reactor that could make electricity cheaply! It’s very unlikely I’d be able to do that on my own though 😛

      I’ve actually invented quite a few things in chemistry – I have about 8 patents (I’m not sure how many off the top of my head). None have made any money yet but we have set up a company called TechnoPep to exploit some of the technology and I hope one day to be able to buy a Porsche!!

      Oh – and some results of our work might be a cure for AIDS and cancer, a supply of energy for the whole of humanity and something that finds lost coins down the backs of sofas. I reckon we will manage two out of three so look forward to finding lots of fluffy two pence pieces soon.

      Like Akram – a cure for some of life’s most challenging medical conditions come to mind – cancer, brain disorders, degenerative diseases – but all out of my scope.
      In my own research it would be an affordable and easyily installed solution for buildings that are hard to insulate and expensive to heat (which means they also use lots of energy and emit lots of carbon).
