Tricky one – it depends on how people’s views would be changed and that would not be a simple thing to try to work out. As a scientist, I am aware that things I discover may be used for bad as well as for good. I can’t allow myself to worry about that I only try to do things for good. If others choose to use this to do bad things that is something ove which I have no control. So I guess I’m coming round to saying if I did find something out that fundamentally changed people’s lives, I would tell the world. However, I would only be looking to try to do good.

I think i’d publish it.. then hopefully everybody involved would have a big debate about how it affected the world and what we should do differently. You need to involve lots of people to make things democratic – then everybody should be happy with the outcome

I started off by thinking I’d tell everyone if it was a good thing, and maybe not tell them if it was a bad thing – but I also think that people need to know about the good, the bad and the ugly – you just have to be careful how you tell them and keep communicating. People like to be informed and feel like part of the solution….

I would talk to my closest friend and see if we can make money out of it first then publicise it 😀
