      Winning an award for my outreach activities in the British Science Festival 2011 in Bradford that is awarded to early-career scientist who can deliver their science and engineering to the public with interest and passion 🙂

      also think doing ”I’m a scientist’ comes close to the above in order 😀

      Being responsible for discovering special chemicals that can remove the dangerous radioactive components selectively from nuclear waste so the can be destroyed and turned into non-radioactive material. I believe this will benefit all of humanity – for now and for ever.

      I designed some fusion experiments at the end of last year. I study things called ‘magnetic islands’ which can be damaging to fusion reactors and could make fusion electricity more expensive in the future.

      In this experiment, we created the conditions to make a magnetic island disappear and measure it in a lot of detail as it disappeared. This has helped us gather lots of information about how they disappear so we can stop them happening in the future 🙂

      I was selected to do something called “Carbon Crucible” 3 years ago. 30 people were selected from across the UK to complete a full programme of activities aimed at generating new research to address carbon reduction – we interviewed Westminster MP’s, played in an African steel band, took on Apprentice style challenges, met lots of new people and finally won some money to do research projects. A real high point, and made friends for life 🙂
