• Question: what would you do with the winnig Ā£500 ? and why ?

      I would spend the money on development kits that will allow me to create wireless sensors we can wear while walking or running and make sure that people can re-programme these sensors to see how simple instructions can save us huge amount of energy that is constantly wasted due to to inefficient use of general engineering and science knowledge.

      This kit will travel with me to schools and public event and ensure that people see how we can create green radios interactively .. Well I hope so with your votes and supports šŸ™‚

      Good question – something very visual that makes people realise that they CAN make a difference to climate change. We are all individuals who have a very small impact each, but when 7 billion of us gather on the same planet, we make quite an impact.

      I’d spend it on the Sun Dome ā€“ a science roadshow about the Sun and fusion.

      The Sun Dome is a virtual journey into the heart of the sun for students in years 5 and 6 of primary school. We use interactive games and movies projected inside an inflatable dome to describe how the Sun makes fusion happen. We also talk about fusion in tokamaks. It was designed by Culham Centre for Fusion Energy to tour around the area near Oxford but we have been borrowing it and taking around schools in York for a couple of years. If I win, Iā€™d like to use the money to take the Sun Dome to more schools.

      I m running a big European conference about chemistry at my university in Reading during August. I will donate the Ā£500 to help a young scientist studying for their chemistry doctorae to attend the conference. Many of the Eastern European countries find the UK and European travel very expensive and this will mean that a student will be able to come along and meet lots of very famous scientists (as well as me………)
