I think Einstein’s theories have been a lot more important than Stephen Hawking’s .. and they were true works of genius. Stephen Hawkings work was only really in one specific area but Einsteins work has an impact on many many different areas … it’s very ‘fundamental’
It depends how you define smartness … but I reckon it’s Einstein 😉

For me I believe Einstein’s findings had more impact than Stephen’s one … SO Einstein from impact prospective but it could be any of them and I cannot determine who is smarter really becasue there are different scales of judging if the person is smart or not!! 🙂

It really remains to be seen. Einstein’s revelation of relativity and quantisation of energy really did revolutionise scientific thought because it answered things that classical (or Newtonian) mechanics couldn’t. Stephen Hawkings’ contribution has yet to be assessed over the same period of time but, great scientist and communicator that he is, I am not sure he will have the same overall significance as Einstein. We will see – or, more likely, you will see.

Their areas are quite different. Einstein perhaps had more impact as his theories were so ahead of their time. I have a struggle agreeing with some of Steven Hawkin’s theories, but doubtless they will both be remembered in history for centuries to come ….. which I think all sciemtists dream of …..
