😀 I love the way you think!!

Well I deal with physics and maths and some biology on daily basis … I use equations and logical reasoning to prove a point and also to explain why stuff happens and I guess that qualifies me as a scientist … I also try to experimentally prove stuff and build solutions for problems that people can use so I am also an Engineer 😉

🙂 Justifying a theory is hard work! You have to build lots and lots of evidence before people start to believe it … you have to think of all the different ways something could be caused and check each one before you know for certain.

As a chemist I am no different from any scientist. I propose a theory and then I design tests to try to disprove it. The more I am unable to disprove it, the stronger my hypothesis becomes. In an experimental subject like mine it means designing experiments to test my theories and then carrying these out in the laboratory. It isn’t always easy but it can be real fun. Quite often I do end up disproving your hypothesis and then it is back to the drawing board – but at least I know one way I shouldn’t be thinking so it is still an advance.

A scientist is a person who is studying or has expert knowledge of one or more of the natural or physical sciences – all of us here have this but with expertise in different things. My expertise is in applying engineering judgement to reducing the environmental impact of building products and processes. I guess you could say I have expert knowledge because lots of people contact me after reading the publications I have written 🙂
